{"id":2373,"date":"2016-02-03T21:17:25","date_gmt":"2016-02-04T02:17:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/covingtonestateshoa.com\/?p=2373"},"modified":"2016-02-11T21:37:32","modified_gmt":"2016-02-12T02:37:32","slug":"community-message-on-zika-virus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/covingtonestateshoa.com\/?p=2373","title":{"rendered":"Community Message on Zika Virus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hillsborough County is one of several locations in Florida where individuals have been identified with the Zika virus.\u00a0 All of those infected acquired the illness while traveling internationally.\u00a0 At this time there are no cases of locally acquired Zika reported in Florida, and we have no reason to believe our local mosquito population is carrying the virus. Hillsborough County Mosquito Control operates in coordination with the Florida Department of Health to implement policies and procedures to prevent and control the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses.<\/p>\n<p>Avoiding mosquito bites is the best prevention against Zika. Mosquito Control sprays insecticides to kill\u00a0 mosquitoes, but we always need the public\u2019s help to remove breeding habitats in residential areas.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how you can help:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Drain:<\/strong> water from garbage cans, gutters, pool covers, coolers, toys, flower pots, or any other containers where water has collected.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Discard:<\/strong> Old tires, drums, bottles, cans, pots and pans, broken appliances, and other items that aren&#8217;t being used.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Empty<\/strong> and <strong>Clean:<\/strong> Birdbaths and pets\u2019 water bowls at least once or twice a week.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Protect:<\/strong> Boats and vehicles from rain with tarps that don&#8217;t accumulate water.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maintain:<\/strong> The water balance (pool chemistry) of swimming pools. Empty plastic swimming pools when not in use. Repair broken screens on windows, doors, porches, and patios.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clothing:<\/strong> Cover up \u2013 always wear socks and shoes, long pants, and long-sleeved sleeves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Repellent:<\/strong> Apply mosquito repellent to bare skin and clothing.
