{"id":822,"date":"2013-05-17T21:25:59","date_gmt":"2013-05-18T01:25:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/covingtonestateshoa.com\/?p=822"},"modified":"2019-01-17T20:03:03","modified_gmt":"2019-01-18T01:03:03","slug":"vacation-safety-precautions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/covingtonestateshoa.com\/?p=822","title":{"rendered":"Vacation Safety Precautions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nWith school almost out, Tampa Police Department officials offer these tips to make sure your house is secure when you head out of town this summer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Residential burglaries increase as much as 18 percent during the summer while families are away on vacation, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With that in mind, officials at the Tampa Police Department released the following tips for New Tampa residents as they head out of town:<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Give your house a lived in look.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Put automatic timers on several lights on each level of your home, on a radio and on the television. Set the timers so the lights and appliances will turn on and off randomly.<\/li>\n<li>Leave shades and blinds in the same positions they are in when you are home.<\/li>\n<li>Arrange to have your lawn mowed while you&#8217;re away.<\/li>\n<li>Install dusk-to-dawn or motion sensor lights on all outdoor lights.<\/li>\n<li>Have a neighbor get your mail and any deliveries, or have the post office hold them until you return.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Inform as few people as possible of your vacation plans.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Don&#8217;t post your plans on social media sites.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Leave your contact and itinerary information with a trusted neighbor and ask that neighbor to keep an eye on your property.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t turn on email auto-reply to indicate you are not home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Make sure your home is secure when you leave.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Lock all outside doors with deadbolt locks.<\/li>\n<li>Lock your windows and the garage door.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your smoke and burglar alarms are functioning properly.<\/li>\n<li>Place metal rods in the tracks of sliding windows and doors for extra security.<\/li>\n<li>Securely fasten pet entrances onto your patio.<\/li>\n<li>Make a home inventory list complete with photos and video.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/newtampa.patch.com\/articles\/police-urge-new-tampa-residents-to-take-vacation-safety-precautions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Tampa Patch<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With school almost out, Tampa Police Department officials offer these tips to make sure your house is secure when you head out of town this summer.
